What are the ages for player eligibility?

You must be 12 years old by the date of the tournament you wish to enter. However if your junior golfer is younger than 12 years old and is capable of carrying their golf bag for 18-holes and has a general understanding of the rules of golf – then we will allow players younger than 12 years old to join the AJGO and enter tournaments. Players up to age 19 are allowed to join the AJGO and play in events provided they are not full-time college students.

What does membership in the AJGO include?

For players who meet the age requirements, you are eligible to enter as many events as you like for 1 calendar year, which begins on January 1st. You will receive a AJGO-Logo Under Armour Golf Shirt, a 2010 AJGO Bag Tag, and a current USGA Rule Book.

Can anyone play in Alabama Junior Golf Organization events?

You must be a resident of Alabama and meet the age requirements.

When will the tournament entry applications be available?

You can enter tournaments online starting 30 days before the tournament date. Tournament entries will close 2 days before the tournament date or when the tournament field is full.

Withdrawal Policy

Please review the following Withdrawal Policy before withdrawing from an AJGO tournament.

Tournaments: A player may withdraw 7-days before a tournament with no charge. The credit card you use for paying for tournament entry fees are charged only upon entry into a tournament. You can choose to use your entry fee toward another tournament or receive a refund, less a $10 processing fee per entry.

Once 7-days prior to a tournament has passed, juniors will not receive a tournament entry refund. If a junior withdraws after the 7-day deadline, the junior will receive no refund from the $40 tournament fee. The AJGO understands that emergency situations do come up that may “force” a player to withdraw from a tournament – in these instances, the AJGO may require additional written information in order for the player to receive a credit toward another tournament or a refund.

Membership: After your membership has been processed, the membership dues are non-refundable.

Weather

AJGO Tournaments will be played as long as the golf course is open for “Safe Play,” as determined by the golf course staff. The AJGO believes that it is important that players have an opportunity for tournament play under all types of weather conditions.
We do not cancel tournaments because it is cold, hot, windy, raining, etc. – unless the golf course has been closed by the golf course staff. In the event of a tournament cancellation, players will automatically entered into the re-scheduled tournament.
As a point of reference, over the past 6 years the AJGO has held more than 160 tournaments of which only 3 tournaments have been cancelled because of weather that caused the golf course to be closed by the golf course staff.

Point System

The AJGO has a Points Championship during the Summer and Fall Tournament Seasons.
The points system will determine the final field of the AJGO Junior Championship held at the end of the Summer Season. Only your AJGO Summer Season Points count toward the AJGO Championship Tournament eligibility.

For the 2010 AJGO Junior Tour Summer Season there will be (30) Tournaments. Points from your best 15-Events will be posted. You can play in all (30) tournaments if you like – but only your (15) best results will count towards your points total.

Points are distributed as follows:

1st: 20 points
2nd: 18 points
3rd: 16 points
4th: 14 points
5th: 12 points
6th: 10 points
7th: 8 points
8th: 6 points
9th: 4 points
10th: 2 points

No shows (DNS) and No cards (NC): -10 points

DNS refers to those players who fail to appear for their assigned tee time without notifying the AJGO. NC refers to those players who fail to return their scorecards to the Scoring Committee. In the event of either offense, ten points will be subtracted from their point total.

There will be a AJGO Junior Tour Season Points Champion for each age group – which is separate from the AJGO Junior Tour Championship Tournament.

Players will be flighted in the AJGO Junior Tour Championship Tournament according to their total points for the season. If an Age Group reaches the maximum number of players for the AJGO Junior Tour Championship, players making field will be determined by their Season Points Total.

Are spectator carts available?

Cart availability is a decision made by the Club at which the tournament is being held.

Can parents “coach” or caddie for players?

No. Parents are required to stay on the cart path at all times and can offer only refreshment or medical attention to their junior player. Parents are not allowed to offer any “coaching” advice or help with club selection, score-keeping etc. Our goal is for the player to learn how to play competitive tournament golf without any assistance.

Are pull-carts allowed?

The use of pull-carts is a decision made by the Club at which the tournament is being held.

What do you mean by Spring, Summer and Fall Seasons?

We will have abbreviated Spring and Fall Seasons consisting of 6 to 10 tournaments. The Summer Season for 2010 will consist of 30-tournaments that will be located geographically throughout the State of Alabama.

Will there be a Points System and a Championship?

There will be AJGO Points Champions for each age division and a 2-Day AGJO State Championship at the end of the Summer Season.

Can players user range finders?

No. Range Finders still cost well over $150. We do not want parents to feel pressured into purchasing a Range Finder because they feel that their junior golfer is at a disadvantage without one. Perhaps in 2010 the cost of a basic Ranger Finder will fall below $100, at which point we will allow Range Finders during tournament play.

Also, we feel that it is important that junior golfers become proficient at determining distance by using the markers on the golf course and the pin placement.
