| During
my years of involvement in junior golf, I have become more and
more convinced that junior players need to play in as many tournaments
as possible to make a meaningful increase in their skill level.
However not everyone can take the time and make the financial
commitment that their junior golfer may need. My solution was
founding the AJGO as a nonprofit in order to keep entry fees
as low as possible and to focus on 1-day events that allow families
to save on meals and hotel rooms.
As the Executive Director of the Birmingham Golf Association, I wanted to offer BGA Junior Golfers additional opportunities to play in golf tournaments outside the Birmingham area. Both venues should offer the best opportunity for beginners and advanced junior golfers to play competitive tournament golf statewide.
AJGO is holding tournaments statewide, so regardless of where you live in Alabama you will be able to play in at least (8) tournaments during the summer golf season that are less than a 2-hour drive from your home.
Kim's Golf Background
Kim has a long and distinguished career in the golf community.
As a junior golfer, Kim won more than 50 Junior Tournaments
and played in the Junior World Tournament in San Diego, California.
Kim's junior golf career earned her a 4-year
athletic scholarship to play on the Auburn Tigers Women's Golf
Team. And play Kim did, in every tournament during her 4-years
as a athletic letterman on the Lady Tiger's Golf Team.
In 1991, the Birmingham, Alabama native became
the golf professional at Pine Harbor Golf Club in Pell City,
Alabama.
Kim later held internship positions at the
USGA, the PGA and the Alabama Golf Association. There is no
better way to gain experience in all aspects of the golfing
community.
Following her internships, Kim became the
executive director of the Birmingham Golf Association. The BGA
holds a very successful summer Junior Golf Tour consisting of 17 events in the
greater Birmingham area. The BGA Junior Tour gives Birmingham area junior golfers the opportunity to play tournament golf on many of Birmingham's finest golf courses - which are ranked amoung the best golf courses in the southeast.
In addition to her involvement in junior golf, Kim fulfilled
a long-term goal of becoming a college golf coach. To that end,
Kim is the Head Coach of the UAB Blazer Women's Golf Team. Under
her guidance the Lady Blazers have made great strides to become
competitive on a national level. She has coached the UAB Women's
Golf Team to two of its four all-time tournament victories and
guided individual Lady Blazers to four individual titles.
